This workshop will focus on Positive Behavior Supports and how they can help support individuals with intellectual disabilities. The workshop will include practical strategies with examples and opportunities for participants to practice many of them. The workshop will cover a description of how Positive Behavior Supports and the efforts for equity, participation and well-being complement each other. Participants will learn about the core elements or practices within Positive Behavior Supports. Participants will learn some specific strategies and interventions that fit with these core practices such as self-management and methods supporting increasing engagement.
Dr. Howard Wills is a Professor at the University of Kansas (KU) and a Senior Scientist at Juniper Gardens Children’s Project at KU. He has over 25 years of experience developing and testing positive behavior supports and interventions. His research has been widely published and has received the highest distinction from the United States Department of Education for the quality of evidence. Dr. Wills has trained staff and teachers throughout the United States and has made several trips to Taiwan to conduct well attended workshops and trainings across the country.
