Purpose of the Awards
The AFID Kaoru Star Raft Awards recognize outstanding activities and contributions in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities within AFID member countries or regions.

In 2025, the award’s name was updated to honor “Kaoru,” reflecting a legacy of compassion, inclusion, and community. The awards celebrate initiatives that promote inclusion, innovation, empowerment, and participation.

Awards Details

• Number of Awards: Up to 3 (maximum)
• Prize: 20,000 TWD per awardee (approx. 100,150 JPY)
• Presentation: During the Opening Ceremony of the 27th AFID Conference (Taipei, October 2025)

Eligibility Criteria

• Provision of medical, rehabilitation, or vocational support for persons with developmental disabilities
• Innovative teaching or training in special or inclusive education settings
• Inclusion initiatives in mainstream schools or communities
• Volunteer or community-based support programs
• Advocacy for social inclusion, empowerment, or self-determination

Application Instructions

• Select an activity that demonstrates excellence, innovation, or significant contribution.
• Complete the application form (see below).
• Prepare supporting materials:
  • Reports or documentation
  • Photographs, videos, or media coverage
  • Testimonials or case studies (optional)
• Obtain a one-page letter of support from your country’s AFID Member Organization.
• Ensure your application is endorsed by your AFID Member Organization.

• Deadline: August 31, 2025
• Notification of Results: by September 30, 2025
